Privacy Policy
This site is a reading site about free things to do in Reykjavik. It is built as plain pages: no accounts, no logins, no comment boxes, no forms of any kind. Nothing is sold or paid for here, so there is very little to collect in the first place. You read about the free nave at Hallgrimskirkja, or the Sun Voyager sculpture on the waterfront, and either you leave or you follow a link out. That is the whole shape of a visit.
What This Site Records
The analytics script on this site works in aggregate. It counts which pages were opened, a rough country, the kind of device, and which GuruWalk walk links were clicked. That last one matters most: when a reader goes from a page about a free walking tour in Reykjavik to a guide's GuruWalk page, the click is what shows the page did its job. No names, email addresses, payment details or travel documents are stored, because nothing on this site ever asks for them.
Cookies And Outside Content
Cookies are minimal and mostly borrowed. The measurement script sets a small number of its own. Embedded maps, such as those showing where a walk meets at Austurvollur, load from the provider's servers, and any cookie that provider sets falls under its privacy policy rather than this site's. The same applies to any embedded video. Nothing here builds a profile of a reader across other websites.
Every walk link points to a live GuruWalk listing. Follow one and GuruWalk can place its own cookie, so a reservation can be traced back to this site, which is how the site earns money at no extra cost to you or the guide. From that moment you are on GuruWalk's terms and the guide's, not this site's. The full picture, including how the referral works, sits on the disclosure page.
What Never Happens Here
- Personal data is never sold, rented, or passed to anyone, period.
- No ad networks, tracking pixels or retargeting cookies load on any page of this site.
- No account is ever needed. Nothing on this site asks for a name, an email or a password.
- No booking happens here. A free spot on any walk is reserved through the guide's own GuruWalk page or the freetour.com listing for the CityWalk tour, and the confirmation arrives from that platform, so no reservation detail ever reaches this site.
- There is no form to fill in anywhere. The contact page simply opens the visitor's own email program, so a message goes out without passing through any server this site controls.
Hosting
Like nearly every website, this one sits on a third-party host, and that host records standard server logs, IP addresses included, as ordinary security practice. Those logs keep the site available and protect it from abuse. Nobody here searches them to work out who read which page, and no effort is made to link an address to the walks a visitor compares or the attractions they look up.
Your Choices
Visitors stay in control. Blocking the analytics script, whether through a tracker blocker or a browser setting, changes nothing: every page reads the same and every walk is still described in full. Disabling JavaScript costs only the mobile menu. And anyone who prefers to leave no footprint at all can skip this site and go straight to the source, since the two GuruWalk walks and the CityWalk tour on freetour.com are all findable on those platforms without any help from here.
Anything unclear can be raised through the contact page. The disclosure details cover the fuller picture of how this site earns money and stays independent.
